Unique in both design and material, this upcycled hip bag is made from coated lightbox fabric.
Made from material sourced from the exhibition “Our State: 75 Years of North Rhine-Westphalia,” this hip bag was hand-sewn by a seamstress in Berlin. The fabric comes from large-format wall murals in the exhibition space. The motifs are historical black-and-white photographs from the state’s history, rendered in a dot matrix that, due to the dotted structure, resemble large-scale newspaper clippings.
Lightbox fabric is characterized by its ability to evenly diffuse light from backlighting sources while remaining opaque, ensuring that motifs on the front remain clearly visible. In its upcycled and tailored form, only fragments of the original motifs remain visible, transforming the motif into an abstract dot pattern.
Each hand-sewn piece is one-of-a-kind, so the print will vary slightly from the images.
The sturdy fabric is wipeable and waterproof, but not machine-washable.
The hip bag has an additional inner lining.
