Two Wheels – Freiherr of Drais and the Cultural Evolution of the Bicycle

In this competition entry for the Technoseum Mannheim visitors are invited to follow a path leading them along large black-and-white display platforms. Each of the colourfully lit platforms carries an installation illustrating an event or a stage in the cultural evolution of the bicycle. Black rubber guide boards at the front of the platforms provide space for the exhibition text and object labels. The exhibition’s chronological narration is supported by repeatedly focusing on certain aspects as well as recurring media, scouting and experimental stations.
