The museum of the Eutin Palace has by stages reworked its permanent exhibition as well as its graphic identity – created and accompanied by gewerkdesign. First to be reopened were the redesigned Royal Loge, the Palace Chapel and the Antependium Room. The antependium, a precious altar hanging, is the sole focal point in the design concept of its room. The redesign of the antependium room is created around the exhibit itself. An intricate lighting concept guides the visitors' gaze in the darkened and sparsely furnished room – with only the antependium to focus on. The design of the new permanent exhibition including a modern signage system was inspired by the reflections and crystalline shapes of the luxurious chandeliers that are found throughout the palace.
Taking this idea as a starting point, gewerkdesign developed a variety of design elements that guide the visitors from the inner courtyard to the newly staged first floor of the palace. In cooperation with the light designer Ulrike Link, indoor steles were created with colours matching the room they are positioned in. These textile polygons not only inform about the history of the rooms but also serve as lighting screens. Crystalline shapes – as the key element of the design – are also found in the new palace’s logo that was reworked by gewerkdesign. An animated welcome film, produced together with the artist Larissa Blau, reflects the element of mirroring in its kaleidoscopic style. A digital media guide, developed with our project partners Graphscape and speak low, provides the visitors with additional material such as video, audio and text, while guiding them through the museum.
