Background
In 2020, the Hanseatic city of Bremen celebrates an anniversary: Radio Bremen turns 75. The Focke Museum is marking this anniversary year with a special exhibition focusing on the broadcast station. »Media Worlds« traces the development of the state broadcaster – its history, present, and future – and analyzes it as representative of media development in Germany. This includes the importance of media in daily life. We spend an average of seven hours a day listening to the radio, watching television, and using the internet. How we use media varies greatly. The statistics on our current media usage are reflected in interactive stations and are intended to encourage visitors to reflect on their usage behavior and take a look at their own habits. The participatory and inclusive exhibition is divided into three areas: the walk-in media library – an elaborate presentation with audio, film, light, and objects that takes visitors on a journey through Radio Bremen’s 75-year history; the interface – an open area with numerous hands-on stations that invite interaction and in-depth engagement; and the studio with a green screen, fact wall, and »talking heads«, four life-size monitors with contributions from television personalities. Visitors are invited at all levels to become active and interactive participants in the exhibition as media experts in their own right.
