Background
With the exhibition „Close-Up“, the Altona Museum presents 120 years of Hamburg’s film and cinema history. The exhibition design focuses on the cinema screen as a partition between the auditorium and the backstage area. It comprises five different cinema environments furnished with posters, photos, film clips, and props, opening spectacularly with the original film set of Fatih Akin’s “Der Goldene Handschuh”. The exhibition architecture elaborates on the transient qualities of film making: materials such as cinema velvet, wooden scaffolding, and printed black cardboard evoke the atmosphere of a film set. Film-up! 3D becomes 2D becomes 3D. On a separate stage, the so-called “Trickkiste”, the exhibition presents the world of animation and animated films from Hamburg.
